The Wockhardt-Harvard Medical International HIV/AIDS Education and Research Foundation (WHARF) is a non-governmental association, founded in 2002, whose mission is to develop train-the-trainer programs to build the capacity of primary care providers and other frontline care providers confronting the HIV/AIDS epidemic in resource-limited regions of India. WHARF's programs address the full spectrum of HIV/AIDS-related issues, exploring the epidemiological impact at both the global and country level, as well as presenting the latest knowledge in the clinical areas, including the principles of antiretroviral therapy, treatment of AIDS complications, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, and HIV virology and its pathogenesis. Faculty from both Harvard Medical School and India have served as faculty for these programs, and since its inception, more than 1,500 people have been trained in programs offered by WHARF. Those trainees have trained more than 3,500 additional care providers.
